Thing 14

The Research Calculator is a very interesting idea.If I was going to use it I would opt for the long version.I like that it moves the student along while challenging them at each stage to prove/verify that they've completed and understood each step.A specific plan like this seems much better for research projects because it's considering the sums individually as you go along constructing the whole.

I like that the teacher is required to keep the momentum of the project going. Also, something that I'm concerned about in this information-everywhere age, they note the need to sort out the sources of information according to their accuracy and intent. This is why I groan when people try to prove a point by starting out with "well, according to Wikipedia...".

I never encountered anything like this in high school. This method is comprehensive and if adhered to,the student could easily use this in any other class project. It requires them to actually process the information, think about how they are acquiring and using the information, and interpreting what they've gathered and assimilated.Really, this should be taught in schools as early as applicable.
